A Family Legacy of Freshness and Flavor

Astoria Seafood began in 1993 as a wholesale fish market founded by Spyros Christakos, whose roots trace back to a long family tradition of fishing and seafood trade in Greece. Drawing inspiration from his father’s seafood business in Jackson Heights and his grandfather’s life as a fisherman in the Mediterranean, Spyros brought his passion for the ocean’s bounty to the heart of Queens.

Originally serving restaurants and chefs across New York, Astoria Seafood quickly gained a reputation for sourcing some of the freshest fish and seafood available. Over time, locals began requesting retail access—and the business evolved.

By the early 2010s, a small kitchen was added, giving birth to the now-famous concept: choose your own seafood, and we’ll cook it for you. Guests pick directly from an ice display of the day’s catch, bring it to the counter to be weighed and seasoned, then enjoy it hot and freshly prepared—grilled, fried, or sautéed to perfection.

Today, Astoria Seafood is more than just a restaurant: it’s an experience. From the moment you walk in, you’ll find yourself immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of a true neighborhood gem—no frills, no fuss, just incredible seafood served with heart. It’s BYOB, always lively, and always fresh.

Whether you’re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, we welcome you to become part of our story.
